Trump to End DACA, expected to make announcement Tuesday

DACA program wiki: President Donald Trump is heading to end DACA. It is expected that the official announcement will be made on Tuesday. The decision is likely to provide six months time to Congress to fix the issue. It leaves some time to save, but for a legislative solution to it the path is very steep.

The Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program protects undocumented 800,000 from deportation and allows them to study and work legally in US.

According to the sources, the decision has been taken to give six months to congress to find an alternative. DACA was an Obama administration policy which protected young women and men living in US known as ‘Dreamers’ from deportation. DACA was created in 2012 through an executive order. It was for those young who had come to US before 2007, was below 16 years and had no criminal history. The illegal immigrants are from several countries, majority of them are from Mexico and Latin America.

During the election campaign, Trump had promised to scrape DACA if elected to power. Americans are opposing the move to end DACA and have rallied to support the young who have lived major part of their life in US.

House of Representative speaker Paul Ryan and some other representatives have urged Trump last Friday not to end the program and allow Congress to fix it. Civil rights advocates and Democrats are raising their voice that ending the policy would be ‘a grave moral and legal error’. Obama, when he was president, also had told Trump to think ‘long and hard’ about ending DACA. He said, ‘The notion that we would just arbitrarily or because of politics punish those kids when they didn’t do something themselves … would merit my speaking out’.
