Toronto International Film Festival Opens: Tennis drama Borg/McEnroe kicks it off

Toronto international film festival 2017 has been opened officially today. It is 42nd TIFF film festival which is being held from 7th to 17th September. The festival includes 255 feature films and 84 short films. Check Toronto film festival 2017 winners list and lineup on www.tiff.net.

The festival holds glamorous events with red carpet, masterpiece screening, lectures, workshops, discussions, industry support and creates an opportunity for filmmakers from Canada and around the world meet at one place. Film lovers have several programming options to explore which include Midnight Madness screening series, Gala presentations and Contemporary World Cinema.

The opening film for the festival is Borg/McEnroe which is based on popular tennis rivalry. This sports-based film has gained lots of attraction this year. It is woven about the story of famous Wimbledon championship men’s final of 1980 between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, the film is directed by Janus Metz and starring Shia LaBeouf, Sverrir Gudnason and Stellan Skarsgård. The film is to be released in UK on 22nd September.

This year also there will be a “Festival Street” and a portion of King Street West will remain closed in both directions between Peter Street and University Avenue from Thursday 10:00 am to Monday 6 am.

This year a new attraction to Festival Street is added; there is going to be a live rap battle between Toronto rapper Alex Larsen, Madness and aka Kid Twist. It is to be started at 8:30 pm Thursday. The battle is an attempt to promote a film Bodied based on sport of battle rapping and produced by Eminem, directed by Joseph Khan.

Toronto International Film Festival presents the best of international and Canadian cinema to those interested in films. The festival was started 40 years ago and has become one of the world’s most publicly attended film festival.
